High school baseball.....nobody on.....batter hits a line drive to center fielder that bounces into his glove & throws to 1st attempting to retire the runner at 1st...... the batter has already rounded 1st base & on his way to 2nd....after the runner reached 1st, the center fielder's throw goes over the 1st baseman's head & rolls into dead ball territory. Should the runner be at 2nd base or 3rd base?? I ask because I know the 2 base award rule at the time of the pitch. That's what wants me to think he should be at 2nd base, but I'm not sure & would like to be. 1 more reason why I think the runner should be at 2nd is........I know if this situation occured..... 2 outs with a runner on 3rd base & the center fielder (actually) does throw him out at 1st..... Then the runner on 3rd does not score. I still don't know......should he be at 2nd or 3rd base?? (my 1st situation described above)
