Hi, I am a 17 year old female, and I have been surfing for almost 7 years now. My question is, how does someone get into surf competitions? I have never competed before, therefore I don't have much knowledge on this subject. I live on the east side of America, but I do not live on the coast (i live about 3 hours from the coast). I plan on attending surf camp this summer, and I will be at the beach for two weeks straight. I also plan on driving to a popular surf area a couple times this summer to get some one day sessions in as well (this is how i have been getting my surfing in for the past 7 years). I surf to have fun, and not necessarily to compete. I just feel that participating in surf competitions will help add some "zest" and a competitive feel to surfing for me (I am VERY competitive). I have done quite a bit of research on this subject and happened to come upon the ESA website, so if you have any knowledge on this organization as well, that would be very useful. I am just looking for some insight and advice on this subject. Thank you! (fyi I have been surfing a 6'6" shortboard which is very large for my size, and I am going to be moving down to a 5'8" fish. just in case that might be useful)
